Mic Test
Speak and watch the meter move — then record a quick sample to hear how you sound.
How to test your microphone
Press Start mic test, allow microphone access and say a few words. The waveform and level meter react to your voice in real time. Record a five-second sample to hear exactly what other people hear on calls, in games or in your recordings.
Microphone not working?
- Pick the right input in the microphone list — headsets often add a second device.
- Check the mute switch on your headset or the mute key on your keyboard.
- On Windows, open Sound settings → Input; on macOS, System Settings → Sound → Input, and make sure the browser is allowed to use the microphone.
- Close apps that may take exclusive control, such as Discord or Teams, and try again.
Getting ready for a call or stream? Also run the webcam test, the internet speed test and the keyboard tester.
Frequently asked questions
How do I test my microphone?
Press Start mic test, allow microphone access, then speak. If the level meter and waveform move, your microphone is working.
How can I hear how I sound?
Press Record 5 s, speak normally, then press play on the recording to listen back.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Audio is analysed and recorded only inside your browser and disappears when you close the page.
Why is the meter not moving?
Check that the right microphone is selected, that it is not muted in system settings, and that no other app has exclusive access to it.
What is a good microphone level?
Normal speech should reach the green-to-yellow area most of the time. Constant red means the input is too loud and may distort.
Does the mic test work on phones?
Yes, in modern mobile browsers. You may need to allow microphone access in your phone’s settings.
