How to play Scorpion Solitaire

Scorpion is Spider's meaner cousin on a single deck. You build down in suit inside the tableau itself, and you may drag any face-up card along with the whole pile on top of it โ€” so a single move can rearrange half the board, for better or worse. Three cards wait in the stock for the moment you run out of ideas.

The board resizes to whatever screen you are on. Drag a card with your finger, or simply tap it and it moves to the first place it legally fits. On a keyboard, N starts a new game, U undoes, H gives a hint and Space draws from the stock.

Frequently asked questions

How is Scorpion different from Spider?

Scorpion uses one deck, builds only in suit, and lets you move any card together with the unordered pile on top of it.

What happens to a finished run?

A complete King-to-Ace run in one suit is lifted off the board automatically. Clear four of them and you have won.

When should I use the three stock cards?

Only when you have no useful move left. They drop onto the first three columns and can easily block a card you still need.

Can I move a pile that is out of order?

Yes, that is the defining rule of Scorpion โ€” but everything you carry stays on top of where you drop it.

Is Scorpion solitaire winnable?

About a third of deals are, which puts it among the harder single-deck games.

Does an empty column accept any card?

No, only a King, which is why emptying a column is such a strong move.
